All:the fust work at New Plymouth took plaeo on the plough: and all the horses with; engagements at Stratford on Saturday acquitted themselves well. Lucky Alice and Arvada went five furlongs nicely in lmin 4sec. The former looks in great order, and her showing in tho Cup at Optfnako can be passed over. Royal Bengal did an easy working gallop over a circuit. Merry Way and Glowlight hopped off at the six-furlong peg, but thero was no pace on over tho intial furlong, which took 15see.' Then they moved touch better jmd raa .tho final five fur-

Refresher wont away from Amyril over tho final stages of a sis-furloi.g gallop to lecord ]mm lCJsec for tho distance, the last five taking lmin 3sec. Ho is a fit horso.
A muddling start rather spoiled an interesting half-unle l>etwcen Lady Qucx and Cereal. Tho latter hopped off threo lengths in front of tho marc, but was then steadied to allow her to catch up. As Cereal's timo from peg to peg as 49 4-ssec, it was a really fino gallop. Lady Quex was a short neck iv front at tho finish. With a clean jump-tiff they must have run 49sec.
