India is- not sending a Davis Cut* team this year, owing to lack of funds and the fact that no players resident at the English Universities of Davis Cup class are available. The"position*ii regarded as humiliating to Indian ten"nis enthusiasts, and it is suggested that the funds might in future be raised by a championship competition in India o£ the lines of Wimbledon.
