THE PROPOSED COINAGE
(To tho Editor.)
Sir,—ls it the intention' of the Goysrhn^ent tqr haye xthe proposed coinage minted in New' Zealand? The coinage, will undoubtedly, bs a far-reaching advertising medium for New Zealand, and -tKe Numismatic :Society rightly considers it of the utmost; importance that the designs should typify New Zealand life. Would it not be just ;as-important that the coins be actually,-struck in New Zealand from New Zealand silver? We wtiuld then have a coinage "of our .very own; made by, our "own countrymen from metal taken from oiMV'twn-.'sbil, and bearing designs typical of New Zealand life. Frpm what I have-read-on the subject/the minting of coins is not a difficult procesls, and I cannot think that the necessary skill and machinery Would be wanting'here for'such apurposeir—l. am,, etc.,^-.;.'.:: >;.
