MR. FRANK T. FRASER

Mr. -Frank Trian.ce Fraser,, whos» death occurred in Wellington tfh Sunday, was the eldest son of the lata Hon. F. H. Fraser. He arrived in Wellington in 1864 in the- sailing, ship Wild Duck with his parents, after a passage of 120 days' from. London. At that time there were no wharves at which oversea vessels could berth, and the ships had to anchor in the harbour, their passengers and cargo being conveyed in lighters to the shore. There was a. large Maori pa on Te'Aro beafeh and* smaller one at Pipitca Point. '" .

In those days State schools were nonexistent and Mr. Fraser's early education was received at a private school conducted by his father He began the battle of life as an apprentice- to the bookbinding trade. Finding this-occu-pation too confined, he deserted it for the sea and for. a time worked on sailing ships trading between New Zealand and Australia. Later ho followed farming pursuits .in, the Sandon district*^or some years. Returning to Wejlington he was employed by the lato Mr: James Ransome,—a building contractor. .He afterwards resided for some years at the Lower Hutt. Finally, returning to Wellington he purchased a property in Rintoul. Street,- in. which ; he resided up to. the time of hi 3 death.

The late Mr. Fraser took, no active part in political matters, but was keenly interested in friendly society work, being one of the oldest members in, "Wellington of the Independent Order of Eechaljites. In 1595 he married Miss Mary Trask, the third daughter of the late Mr. George Trask, one of the pioneer settlers in the Manawatu dis? trict. Ho is survived by his M-idow and four sous, Messrs. Eobert, Harold, Donald, and lan Fraser, all of Wellington; two brothers (Mr. Alfred Fraser, public accountant, Foxton, and Captain Eobect Fraser, late Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Dunedin), and one sister (Mrs. Fran£ Bedford, of Seatoun).
