The funeral of_ the late Mr. Ernest Sunley, a well-known resident of Karori, took place oh Sunday. Tho chief mourners "were " his two : sons, and amongst those present were members of the Karori Bowling Club, of which tho late • Mr. ;Sunlcy was one of the oldest members. He competed in the veterans' tournament for five or sii years. Mr. Sunley was formerly a member of tho; Post and Telegraph Department. He leaves two sons, Messrs. E. and H. Sunley, of "Wellington, ana three daughters, Mrs. Bryan, of Clevedou, Mrs. Brown, of New Plymouth, and Mrs. K. Read, of Hataitai.

The council of the Auckland University College has appointed Dr. Ij. H. Briggs to fill the place of Dr. W.. F. Short as lecturer, in organic chemistry. Dr. Short has resigned tho position. Dr. Briggs, who is '28 years -old, has had a briiliant. scholastic career, which he capped by taking his doctorate in. philosophy at Oxford in 1932..
