BURNING BENZINE

MOTOR-LORRY DESTROYED

The top of the- Paekakariki Hill is well known as ja. sight.-seeing vantage point, but at about 7 o'clock last evening it was the scene of a spectacular sight,. when a- motor-lorry ■ laden with 200 cases of benzine was destroyed by fife. Apparently the fire resulted from a leak in one of the cases, and when it was discovered at the top of the hill it was impossible for the two men on the lorry to do anything, but make certain of their own safety.-

There were loud detonations as tbo tins of benzine e.xploded. Traffic on the roaii was held up for so.me time. Tho lorry was owned by Mr. Cyril Hodginson,1 of Palmerston North.
