A FINE SALMON
A perfect specimen of quinnat salmon, 'weighing 33 pounds, and three feet eight inches in length, was caught in the Rakaia River last week on' a spoon bait by Mr. E. Ridgen, of Greendale. The fish took 35 minutes to land ami fought strongly in the heavy water of the main stream after it hud been struck, but after it had been worked into a back water it was gaffed without much difficulty. Shortly afterwards Mr. Ridgen struck the mate of the fish he had landed, and for 25 minutes endeavoured to land it. The fish fought quite as strongly as the previous one, and after it had got into very fast water it ran out all his line and broke clear. Tho catch was the biggest of which Mr. Ridgen knew for tho season (states the "Press"), although there had been odd ones caught in other seasons weighing up to 35 pounds. Tho Rakaia was at present in perfect order for fishing, and all the other rivers ware equally good, it being tho first timo that they had been clear for over a month.
