MURDER ATTEMPT ALLEGED

MAN ALSO IN TROUBLE

r CHRISTCOTRCH, This Day.

Myrtle Long, aged 45, a domestic, was charged this morning with attempting to murder Arthur Hemy Way on March' 25, and was remanded until April i in the custody of the Salvation Army. ' : . ' . ■

Way, a commercial traveller, aged 53, appeared on a charge of being unlawfully on premises at 89 Hackthorne Koad, on March 27, and was remanded until April- 4.

■ The poliee.alleged that five shots were. fired at Way, and Way refused to give any particulars other than that he was shot accidentally.■ in the arm.'

The police said that the woman was arrested last night. It t was not the woman's fault that Way. was not fatally shot," added the Chief Detective. "She did her best to." He opposed bail. •

• Counsel for the woman said that she was "well known." There was a good defence. ' .

The Magistrate (Mr. E. Moslcy): I think it would be better if sho was not allowed bail. The circumstances are peculiar.

In regard to Way, the police said he was admitted to hospital at 1.50 a.m. on. Sunday' with a shot-wound in the arm. When, interviewed by a detective he refused to give information. After his discharge from the hospital he-was seen, at the promises in'Hackthorne Koad, and was finally located hiding behind a tree. There was no objection to' bail if he assisted the police.

Bail wag allowed Way in the sum of £200 and one surety of £200, on condi-tion-that he reported daily to the police and did -aot go to Haekthorne Koad.
