AT "NGAROMA"
Although the weather was disappointingly dull for tho garden party held by the National Council of Women on Saturday, thoso who did attend spent a pleasant afternoon in the gardens of "Ngaroma," Mr. and Mrs. Hope- Gibbons 's residence at Lyall Bay. Tho rock gardens and "the glen," a picturesque walk of natural beauty, were favourite spots.
Stalls and sideshows were arranged round the tennis courts and tea was served'on the lower lawn.
Tho Mayoress, Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, who was introduced by Mrs. Suckling (■president of the National Council of Women) stressed the need of funds for the forthcoming conference and wished the organisers every success, then declaring tho party open. Mrs. Hislop wore a coat, of marine blue lairiage-with a deep Toll collar of fur, and a smoke grey toque. She was presented with a jposy.of mauve pom-pom dahlias by Miss Dorocn Janrieson.
A delightful programme of tap and fancy dancing was given by a number of Miss Hazel Martin's small pupils. Conveners of stalls wore as follows: — Tea, Mrs. Sellars and Miss Seaton; mixed stall, Mesdnmes Jainieson and Outhwaite; side-shows, Messrs. Suckling, Hutton, and Lcvestan; gate, Mesdames Chapman and Fordo; lucky baby competition, Miss Bull; and icecream, Miss Stephanie Suckling.
