TWENTY-FIFTH YEAR
UPPER HUTT CELEBRATES
Tomorrow is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the gazetting o£ the Upper Hutt Town District as an independent local authority in the Hutt Valley. The establishment of the town districts was due to the efforts o£ the present Mayor of Upper Hutt (Mr. A. J. McCurdy), who urged its separation from the Hutt County because of the neglect of the needs of the growing settlement. At the first election. of town commissioners there were 140 electors on the roll,_ and a population of slightly over 500. Now the borough roll contains the names of over 2000 electora, and the population is almost 4000. To commemorate the occasion the Ma.yor will tomorrow attend the morning service at St, Joseph's Latnolic Church, and the evening service at St. David's Presbyterian Church—the first settlers m the district-having been Oatholics . and Presbyterians. Tho Mayoress will attend the morning service at St. John's Anglican Church, and the evening service at the Methodist Church' 'Borough councillors and their wives have been invited by the Mayor to attend the services. ~ . .- ■
