EMPLOYING BOYS
700 STILL UNPLACED
The Boy Employment Committee of Wellington, which is centred in the V.M.C.A., has found more than 600 positions for unemployed boys during .the past year, according to a statement by the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop who is _ chairman of the organisation. In 'this connection splendid assistance had been rendered by retired Government officials, who had given their services voluntarily, and also by officers detailed by the Unemployment Bureau. The committee carried out the recent Peurose Agricultural Camp, and provided sixty boys with a preliminary training which would enable them to secure work in the country. Already 60 per cent, of the boys who attended Penrose and qualified for farm positions had been placed in work.
The Boy Employment Committee 'at the present has more than 700 boys [registered as unemployed, and earnestly appeals for openings for these boys. The majority are excellent lads, many of them, with _ a secondary education, and the committee appeals to farmers to engage wherever possible an extra boy on their farm.
