SUPPLY CHARGES
POWER BOARDS' POSITION
The opinion that the Public Works Department had seemingly set its face against any reduction, in electric power supply charges was expressed at a meeting of the Waitomo Electric Power Board* Discussion arose when "the engineer submitted a report concerning the suggestion placed before Mr. P. T. M. Kissel, chief electrical engineer of tho Department, that tho supply authorities should be charged on a monthly peak instead of a quarterly one as at present for bulk supply. The statement (reports the "Auckland Star") Bhowed how the change would have affected the Waitomo Board during the last, three quarters. The payment on the quarterly basis would have been £4343, and on a monthly one £4175; which would have represented a saving to the board of 3.9 per cent. That was considered a fair estimate of tho saving that would result.
Members expressed disappointment that tho conference at Hamilton had not made, any headway in regard to uniformity of charges for power supply.
The secretary said that a copy of the report on the matter and the resolution passed by the conference and placed before Mr. .Kissel had been, circulated to all power boards in the Dominion. The report was of considerable interest, as it showed that all the power boards represented at the conference, including tho larger boards, were.in favour of the smaller boards operating ah sparselypopulated areas. It was hoped that united and persistent efforts would bring results, despito the fact that the Public Works Department seemed to have 6et its face against any reduction in. supply charges. '
