AUCKLAND, March 22. When the afternoon express left at ■'! o'clock this afternoon passengers were advised that tho train would go no further than Taumaruuui. Passengers intending to travel by the Limited express, which left at"? p.m., were informed that the train would not proceed further than Prankton Junction. Many people wishing to reach Wellington immediately, cancelled their bookings, not desiring to run the risk of being stranded en route. A few people with urgent business in the south took the chance, travelling with a minimum of luggage.
Only sixty-three persons travelled by the 3 p.m. train, of whom twenty-three were' booked for stations past 'Frankton.
Departmental officials stated that the two expresses were run solely, to keep faith with people living in the districts along the route.
