LINESMAN'S DEATH
A 1500-VOLT SHOCK
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 15. John Beatty, a railway linesman, married, aged 45, died this evening from injuries and shock received when he came into contact with live wires while repairing the overhead transmission gear on the Lyttclton-Chrstehurch line at Woolston this morning. Beatty was attending to an insulator when he received a shook of 1500 volts. Another linesman saw what had happened, and by shaking tho ladder on which Beatty was working, freed him from the wires, but the unconscious man fell heavily to tho ground arid received, in addition to severe shock, serious injuries to his head and an arm. Beatty was admitted to the hospital, but ho did not regain consciousness, and died at 6.30 p.m.
