KILLING AT ISLINGTON

Within a few- days an electricallydriven automatic chain will be installed in the slaughter-house at the Islington Freezing Works, taking the place of the manual appliance at present used by the free labourers. When the equipment becomes installed, all the works in North Canterbury will be operating with automatic plant, the Belfast works having installed similar machinery [a few' weeks ago. The men will, be paid on a contract rate of 27s a hundred .lambs and 30s a hundred sheep. . % "The chain system has succeeded, and the companies are quite satisfied with'the results of the season so far," stated^ the company manager. "I think it has come to stay."
