CROQUET AT PETONE

In fine weather, recently, the members of St. Augustine's Croquet Club, Petone, celebrated the twenty-first anniversary of the inauguratioli of the club. Mrs. Austin, president, and Mrs. MeKenzie, secretary of the Wellington Croquet Association, visited tho lawns during the afternoon, when competitions were entered into by all present. A dainty tea was served in the ladies' room, and a sit-down tea was provided by the members later. Those present included tho president (the Rev. Mr. Gerard) and Mrs. Gerard, Mr. MeKenzie (Mayor) and Mrs. MeKenzie, Mr. Feasey (vicar's warden) and Mrs. Feasey, and Mr. Le Souef (people's warden). The twenty-one candles round the edge formed a complete fence, aud crossed mallets were placed round the sides of tho cake. A special vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Hughes and heartily .ndorsed by the gentlemen present, for the excellent tea provided by tho ladies, with a special word of praise to Mrs. Jones, who baked tho cake, tho decorating of which was done by Mr. Elsmore. Following the tea, a social evening was hold,'when friends attended and a very enjoyable timo was spent in games, musical items, and dancing. The trophies won during the afternoon were presented to tho following: Angles, Mrs. Daly; ladder, Mrs. Bryan; golf, Mrs. May; clock golf, Mr. Marsden; hurry scurry, Miss AValo and Mr. Williams.
