DISTRICT LAMB COMPETITION.
Messrs.'Thos. Borthwick and Sons (Australasia), Ltd., report .having .received, the undermentioned cablegram from their London house in respect of the: district lamb competition recently held' in the Wairarapa in conjunction with the New Zealand Meat "Producers' Board:—''District lamb competition display was given at Smithfield on Tuesday.* Wairarapa lambs treated at Waingawa; won the competition. Quality, dressing, condition exceedingly: fine.. Our congratulations to Wairarapa farmers and Waingawa. works. iPens.number six (Mr. P.R. Welch), sixtyone (Campbell Bros.), and fifty-two (Sir William Perry) were first, second, and third in-the district respectively. Pen number six also won first prize for the whole of the North Island." •Messrs. Borthwick and Sons add that it is- pleasing that Mr. Welch, in addition to obtaining £rst prize in the district competition, was. also successful in winning "the first prize for the North Island. The result of the competition reflects great credit on all who took part in it, and indicates the keen interest that the farmers generally displayed. The management of the Waingawa works report that the killing, dressing, arid general handling of the lambs was done by non-unionists. The management"is very gratified with the result. It is hoped that entries next year will be even greater than those obtained this year. ....
