DEPOSITS EXCEED WITHDRAWALS
STATEMENT BY MINISTER
Last month Post Office Savings Bank Seposits exceeded withdrawals by £25,000, and for the present month, the •withdrawals, usually heavy at the beginning of a month, have been very small indeed. This information was given to the Hbusc of Representatives this afternoon by the Postmaster-Gen-eral (the Hon. Adam Hamilton) in Teply to an urgent question by Mr. R. A. Wright (Government, Wellington Suburbs). Mr. Wright asked if the PostmasterGeneral could say whether deposits in the Post Office Savings Bank were still being heavily drawn upon by depositors who had found' themselves financially embarrassed. ~ Replying, Mr. Hamilton said that for many months the deposits in-the: Post Office Savings Bank did-not equal the withdrawals, but in view- of the Widespread depression, this was expected..
