ST. JUDE'S CHURCH

FAREWELL FATHERING

A very pleasant social gathering, representative of all parts of the Miramar parochial district, was held on Monday evening in St. Jude's Church Hall, Lyall Bay, to farewell Mr. William H. Day, who is leaving for England. Mr. Day has been a loyal worker for many years as vicar's warden, licensed lay reader, and vestryman, and his departure will be a great loss to the district, A presentation of a sum of money, together with an illuminated letter and a list of names of the subscribers, was made by the vicar on behalf of the subscribers. The vicar presided, and he was supported by Canon J. H. Sykes, and Mr. H. W. Dyson, local secretary for the General Church Fund. Representatives of the Ladies' Guilds of St. Jude's, St. George's, and St. Aidan's, organised and carried out the supper arrangements. A very enjoyable programme of vocal and instrumental items compiled by Mr. S. Kiel! Keith, was given. During the course of the evening two competitions were held. The prizes/made and donated by Mr. Keith, were awarded to Miss Lewis and Mr. P. Bray. Contributing artists to the musical programme" were Miss E. Lewis, Miss J. Marshall,' and; Messrs' Ayson, Toghill, Keith, and Histed. ■ -. Mr. Day, who sails by the Remuera from Auckland on Saturday, February 18, suitably responded.
