NOT ENOUGH FINANCE

FOR WELLINGTON VISIT

WAIRARAPA ATHLETES

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") MASTEETON, This bay. For the first time for a considerable number •of years, the Wairarapa will- not be represented, officially at the "Wellington provincial athletic championships, to be held this year at "Wellington on February 25. The matter was discussed at a meeting .of the Wairarapa Sub-Centre of the Wellington Centre held last night, and'it was decided to advise the Wellington Centre, that for financial reasons a team could not ba sent to compete at the - championships this year. Wairarapa athletes, however, are .quite free to compete individually at the meeting. . The Wellington Centre had previously refused an application from the Wairarapa Sub-Centre to conduct the gathering at Masterton, on the ground that it was not fair to ask the city athletes to travel in these times. The Hawko's Bay-Poverty Bay SubCentre has also decided not to send a team to the championships. With Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay out, the McVilly Shield will now be competed for sololy by Wellington and Petone athletes, Mauawatu having joined up with, the Wanganui-Taranaki Centre. It was decided to consider holding a Wairarapa Sub-Centre championship gathering this season, and also to invite the Masterton Club to control the gathering, if held. Mr. Gr. McKay was appointed a delegate to attend the conference of representatives1 of the Wellington Centre and the Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa Sub-Centres, to be held in Wellington on the night of the provincial championships gathering. Failing Mr. McKay's ability to attend the meeting, Mr. W. Grantham will act as deloI Sate. . ■ ■
