YACHTING

EVANS BAY CUP RACES

KEELERS AND SMALL CRAFT

Seven races, two. for keel- yachts- and the others for centreboard boats,' were held by the Evans Bay Yacht and.Motorboat Club on Saturday afternoon. The wind was variable; and at times squally.

The -first-class keelern' race for. the Smith Memorial Cup. was won by the Romp, with a handicap, of 23min. ,The Ailsa was first home from the Atalanta and the' Wairere 11, but on corrected times the Romp took the cup by2sec frbm-the Atalanta, with the Wairere I third.

Good handicapping also made the secondclass keelers' race for the Charlotte Challenge Cup an interesting event. The Nauette led the other boats home, hut went'■.down to third place when the times were adjusted,' the Clutha going .into first place, with the Annetta second as a result of. a substantial allowance.

The Betty was easily first over the finishing line in the ■Rona-Jellieoe event, but did no better, than fourth place on corrected times, the winner being Idono. Only 40sec separated the first four boats when the handicaps were deducted. The Sue-lem started 3min late and.was only 27sec behind the winner.

In ' the first-class centreboarders' race the Kio II had a: runa-way victory,: conceding up to B%min and having an advantage over the second placed boat of nearly: smin, The Little Haste won the second-class centreboarders' racb, and the Whoopee scored decisively among tlie 13ft-and-urider craft.
