TARANAKI MEETING

.INCREASE, IN TURNOVER

FIVE WINNERS REPEAT

(Special from "Hurry On.") NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. The TaranaK Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting, concluded on Saturday, was an outstanding success. There was an mi.- . provemnt in gate takings, and the £17,351 put through the totaliaator was an increase of £2D71 on last year's tiun- - over. Sunshine, showers, and, wind alternated throughout Saturday' afternoon. The course was in good condition. A feature-of the racing was the degree to which form was true. Five of the winners bad won on the first day, and one had run third after being unlucky. The - other winner was Might, whose trainer ' was required by the stipendiary steward, Mr. C. Gonier, to explain the horse's improvement. The explanation was that _ Might had unavoidably-lost ground at the barrier on the first day, and for some time after the start had not been properly balanced. The explanation was accepted, and the connections were exonerated. EASTERL, REPEATS. .._ Easterly repeated her -first day's success in the Okoke Hurdles, and scored very - decisively at the finish. She ran up to the leaders three furlongs from home, . and was* in charge at the : final fence. Tenacre went a solid race, but had no chance with the winner. Calamine stayed oh better than the others, though Royal Eeign also went really well, failing only . over the last furlong. Copey made up a lot of ground over the last half-mile to finish fifth. . CLANGOR IN FORM. The Mokau Handicap was a'tbod "thing for another first-day winner, Clangor. He ran up into second place after going bait a milej and' when Voitre asked him a question soon put the issue beyond doubt, winning very comfortably by threequarters of a length. March Alone came solidly in the straight, but had no chance with the winner. . Davistock had every • chance. Glowlight attempted to win all the way, but faded out before the turn lot home. La Crown failed to leave the barrier, and took no part in the race. GOLDEN HAIR NEATLY. The Taranaki Stakes provided a fine contest. The field raced in line for half a furlong, when Golden Winga, on the rails, and Golden Hair, outside him, tookl ~, up'the running, with Lady. Ques and Midinette two lengths farther back. Golden Hair had a slight advantage at the far turn, where Midinette was third, and Lady Quex last. There was little between the two leaders at the straight entrance. In the.run to the judge, Golden Hair did best, to win by- a short half length, with Midinette a, head behind \ Golden Wings. Golden Hair -won like a good one, and always had the race won over the last hundred yards. Golden Wings" had every chance. Midinette had to cover some extra ground at the turn, arid only just failed to, reach Golden Wings. Lady Ques never looked likely. STILL ANOTHER REPEATS. Eminent never covered an inch of extra ground in the Paul Memorial Handicap, being on. the rails all the way. He was fourth' into the straight, and, receiving a nice run through on the fence, went on to -win nicejy < .iyl, hali ;v a-length. Royal Bengal had" to' come round three horses at the bend, and finished well. Green Linnet looked likely at the distance, but was stopping at;the end. Tentcall -was a good fourth; . Brambletorri, a good- favourite, was badly kicked at the start by Glenyane, andjhad to be withdrawn from the race. THIRD FOR TRENTHAM. Coming with a strong finishing effort, Slight won the Paritutu Juvenile Handicap in decisive fashion. He was third until the straight was reached, and then made his effort. Welcome Lv was in front at the distance, but could. not hold off the winner. Merry Way wast a fair third, but No Doubt was very' disappointing, and did not finish on as expected. . • EASY FOR REFRESHER. The Uremii'Handicap was easy for Refresher; He was first out, and, though Arvada went with him for five furlongs, he was in front at the turn, and weni on to win as he, liked by one and a half lengths. Cereal was unlucky, failing to jump out cleanly, and then running into trouble at the half-mile. Royal Dash niade a fair showing, but the others never looked dangerous. ..-.'. KING WIN DECISIVELY. King Win scored decisively in the Omata Hack Handicap. He was fourth most of the way, and then came through in the straight to win by two lengths. Forceful was wide out at the turn, and finished fast to take second money from Senegal" on the post. Senegal wad in front with Moatoa most of the way, but failed to finish on. Moatoa was a good fourth. . -RESULTS IN DETAIL. Result 3 were:—' Results were:— Okoke i Hurdle Handicap, of S5 sots ; one mile and'a half and 110 yards.—2-2 Easterly, 11.6 (A. yV.
