LOCAL COMPETITIONS
EVENTS AT PAEKAKARIKI
Three of the most^ coveted trophies available for life-saving clubs in 'the Wellington district were competed for at Paekakariki during the week-end. Maranui, Lyall Bay, Island Bay, Worser Bay; Paekakariki, Eastbourne, arid Foxton entered teams for the Law Rose Bowl (a seven-men novice event), the Kennedy Marching Cup, and :the Sanderson Memorial Cup (the senior seven-men event), and competition was very keen. There was a large attendance of the public, and they saw a splendid demonstration of the efficiency of local life-savers. . •■•■..
A fairly heavy surf was running throughout the day, and as it was impossible to put put a buoy, the captains of the teams agreed to forgo, the time test.
The conditions provided an exciting test of the capabilities of the teams, and. all the judges expressed satisfaction' at the high standard, of ability shown. The following are the, results:— Law Rose Bowl.—Paekakariki, 70 points, 1; Worser Bay, 69%' points, 2; Maranui and Lyall Bay, 68 points, 3 (equal); Eastbourne, 61% points, 5; Foxton, 55 points, 6. Kennedy Marching Cup.—Lyall Bay, 38 points, 1; Maranui and Paekakariki, 36 points, 2 (equal); Island Bay, 34 points, 4; Lyall.Bay B, 32 points,.s; Worser Bay, 31 points, 6. . : ' •
■ Sanderson Memorial Cup (Senior). — Island' Bay, 107% points, 1; Lyall Bay A, 106% points,. 2; ;Maramu A, 104% points, 3; Maranui 8,. 99% points, 4; Lyall Bay B and. Worser.Bay, 99 points, "5 (equal). The Island Bay team consisted of J. D. Hunter (captain), J. Arthur, A. Herron, A. Dawson,. J. A. Perry, J. A. Dawson, B. A. Ayres, and M. ■ Gill."
The. judges were Mr. H. Reader for the Law Rose Bowl, Mr. P. D... Edwards for the Kennedy Marching Cup, and Mr. A. Anyon for the Sanderson Memorial Cup. The other officials were:—Timekeepers Messrs. J. McJJie, J. Foley. and W. H. Gerrie; referee, Mr. F. Chapman; mashal, Mr. ST. A. Ingram. At the conclusion' of the competitions, Mr. C. W. Collier, chairman of the"Royal Life-saving Society, Manawatu Head Centre/presented the trophies to the captains of the winning teams. '
