GREYHOUND "TOTES"

BANNED IN BRITAIN

CLOSING ORDERS ISSUED

LONDON, 9th February.

All greyhound track totalisators in England and Wales are expected to be closed to-morrow. The London "totes" closed to-night, following police warnings of prosecutions unless they- were discontinued forthwith. Bookmakers conducted all the betting. Greyhound societies have been instructed that tracks throughout the country are to close their "totes" in deference to Lord Stanley 's views.

The "News-Chronicle" estimates that 14,000 operators will lose their jobs.
