CORRESPONDENCE

A FAIR DEAL ; FOR ALL

(To the Editor.) . .; ' Sir, —The present distressful times Having necessitated help to mortgagor farmers, it follows that relief should be also.landed out to mortgagor owners of city and suburban homes who are now finding it very difficult, under their table mortgages, to meet payments which amount to more than present and prospective' letting values. They bought at peak prices, just as many farmers did, and values, of their properties have declined in value, ha values of farm lands have declined. Some mortgagors to the State have relinquished their homes, and the mortgagee has sold for very much less than the balances owing on them. .. It would surely be better for the Government, City Council, and other mortgagees to assist mortgagors by extending periods for extinguishment of mortgages, arid- so relieve hardship and avert abandonment-of securities in some cases.—l am, etc.,' • ■ •- . . • --•■; MA MORTGAGOR. MANUFACTURERS' DEPUTA- . TION ;.;

..'• (To the Editor.) , ai^'iT 111! New Zealt»<l manufacturers, according to a report in "The Post," waited upon the Prune ■Minister on Thursday to ask for information about the forthcoming tariff tribunal. This information is urgently needed by manufacturers throughout the Dominion: unless thes Iruow what is required'of them—and when —they cannot make preparations for the inquiry , According to my own recollection, this is the second occasion in which the manufacturers have pressed the Government for information as to what ia intended. Surely the Prime Minister is bow m a position to give manufacturers tng information desired. Further delay can only arouse a suspicion that Cabinet is delaying an announcement until Parliament has dispersed in order to deprive parliament 'of its rights to insist upon justice being done. Manufacturers to-day are definitely uneasy as a result o£ the Government having declared that a tariff inqun-y is to be held, while refusing to give .New Zealand manufacturers the in-' formation they need. to enable them to prepare for such inquiry.—l am, etc,, ' ■ : A MANUFACTURER.
