DAY IN PARLIAMENT

SMALL FARMS AND SALES

TAX BILLS

The greater part of yesterday in the House of Eepresentatives was devoted to consideration of the Small Farms (Belief of Unemployment) Bill in committee. Although, generally speaking, mombers did not adopt a hostile attitude to the measure, exception was taken to the wording- of the clause relating to the compulsory acquisition of land, and after a somewhat lengthy debate these were held over with a view to their being re-drafted.

The Sales' Tax BUI, confirming a section of the Customs resolutions passed by the House earlier in the week, was introduced by Governor-General 'a Message, but apart from, a number of questions mainly relating to the exemptions,, there was no discussion.- and the- Bill was read,a-first time;

The Education Amendment "Bill, more or less a machinery measure, was also introduced and read a first time, and the House adjourned at about a quarter to 5 o'clock till 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday
