TIPPING THE WINNERS
The "sporting editor" in the Fremantle Gaol recently tipped Jolly Fair to win the Railway Stakes and Alienist to win the Perth CliP- The double, which was by no means a popular one outside the precincts of "quod," duly came off.
The "News Letter," a fortnightly paper printed in the gaol for the prisoners, contained three winners for that day. The gaol tipster selected also- the first and second horses in the Derby and the winners of other events. Apparently he had some "inside" information.
This is not the first time the "sporting editor" of the "News Letter" has beaten -all competitors. They know their horses in this. gaol. Not" only do they pick them, but they also back them. Last year a "bookmaker" lost 400? —matches, not pounds.
The result of the Perth Cup was known in the gaol within a few minutes. The means is not disclosed. '
