PRISONERS SENTENCED

In the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon prisoners who had either pleaded guilty or who had been found guilty on, certain charges after trial were brought before Mr. Justice Blair for sentence. ' . ■

On charges of breaking and entering a dwelling-house at Masterton arid committing theft, Frank Chapman was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment with hard iabour; and Frederick John Seriven was granted probation for three years, and the conditions were imposed that he must abstain from taking alcoholic liquor during that period, that he pay-the. costs of the prosecution, and repay the money stolen, £11. Stuart McColl, who had been found guilty of two charges of theft, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. :..

Gilbert James Edwin Northcott and Dennis Henry Fryer had been found guilty of charges of breaking and entering and theft. Northcott was sentenced to two years' hard labour, and Fryer, who had been recommended to mercy by the jury v was admitted to probation for two years. • Two young men, Thomas Hale" and Lewis' Edward Bohloff, were found guilty on charges of breaking and entering and theft. Hale was sentenced to two years' reformative detention, and Bohloff to 18 months'reformative detention.

A verdict of guilty was brought in' by the jury on a charge.against Aubrey. Lester Andrew of breaking, entering, and theft at. a boarding-house on The Terrace on 17th January. His Honour imposed a sentence of" imprisonment with hard labour for three years. ;

Hector Rutherford "Mitchell, a'youth) for attempted carnal knowledge on a girl under the age of 16, was sentenced to 3% years in the Borstal.

A girl, 18 years of age, on a charge' of concealment of the birth of a. child, was ordered to come up for sentence any time within two years. The girl's name was suppressed;
