PABIS, 10th February. After a long agitation Prance ias a Habeas Corpus Act. Hitherto anyone accused of a crime could be imprisoned indefinitely during the examining Magistrate's investigations, and was •without redress if eventually acquitted. ' A new Act, giving wider discretionary powers to Magistrates, was promulgated to-day, and has already been responsible for the provisional release of 500 accused persons. Henceforward the accused persons must within five days of hearing be granted provisional liberty, -provided they are of previously good character. ' ' . .
