Known as "The English Marie Dressier," Alison Skipworth, who ranks with the finest stage and screen comediennes of the day, has a delightful role in "The Sporting Widow," which commenced at the St. James Theatre to-day. This comedy is one of the brightest and cleverest of the season. The star has the role of a gay old adventuress, who, on being paroled from prison, assumes. her old title, "The Duchess, of Auburn," and settles down to her old tricks with alacrity. One gay episode leads to another ' until finally

"the Duchess" comes face to' face with her husband, whom she has not seen for years, and her two pretty daughters, who had never seen her at all. How she is stlU able to pursue her delicate calling and at the same time bring happiness to her family before she is returned to her former "home" makes the substance ot a first-rate piece of genuine entertainment. There is a first-rate supporting cast, including the character Actor, Richard Bennett. -
