ATTACKED IN STREET
PEDESTRIAN INJURED
(By Telegraph.) \ . {Special to "The Evening Post.") PALMBESTON N., This Day. A savage and brutal atta-ck on a citizen walking tame through one of the streets close to the business area of Palmerston North was made toy an unknown assailant during the early hours yesterday morning. ' The victim was Mr. J.. Viekerstaff. He was approaching his home in Cuba street when he heard firm footsteps behind him but lie paid little heed; Just as Mr. ViekeT staff was about "to imlateh the gate, the pedestrian, behind him drew level and appeared as though to pass, when: suddenly he struck Mr. Viekerstaff above the left ear with a heavy instrument. The injured man reeled ■with the blow, and, although dizzy, called for help and lunged at the intruder, and tried ineffectively to grasp him.
Mr. Tiekerstaff had seven stitches insertert in a nasty gash on his head.
