THIRD WOOL SALE
NOW
PEOCEEDING
NEW EXCHANGE RATE
The third wool-sale of the season is proceeding atf the Town Hall as wo go to press, Over 30j000 bales (to be exact, 30,175) have been catalogued, and this large offeiing. has attracted a full bench of buyers. There is a good assortment of wools, and the fact that this is the first wool sale in. "Wellington since the raising of the exchange rate adds interest to ■ the proceedings. Tho number of lots is 3102. The catalogues in order of sale are as follows :—- Brokers. Bales. New Zealand, Loan aud Mercantile Agency 3,940 New Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Distributing Co 3,176 Walrarapa. Farmers" Co-op. Association. 1,890 Abraham and Williams and Wright, Stephenson 4,104 Dalgety and Co. , 5,072 Murray, Koberts, and Co., and Johnston and Co. '. ~ 3,878 Levin and Co. 7,455 Total (..... 30,175 FINER SHOW ADVANCE, COARSER NEGLECTED.Judging from operations on the first: catalogue, it can bo said that fine wools from 48's quality upwards were keenly competed for /this afternoon from Dominion mill and Continental quarters, and the finest of these showed an ad-' vance of 3cTto. Id on the rates at the last Wellington sale in January. Good i style wools from 44's to 48's showed' no change on 'the January rates. As quality diminished in the wools being offered, tho demand correspondingly fell off, leaving qualities from 40's to 44's barely on a par -with. January rates, possibly a farthing less—and this notwithstanding the exchange rate.and the slight rise that occurred in other centres since the last "Wellington January sale. The reason, seems to be that there is an over-supply of low quality wools throughout the world. j
The sale is proceeding much on the lines indicated above.
