The Governor-General of-the Dutch East Indies in a speech said* that the Government would take sharp measures against the Seven Provinces as soon as the means to accomplish that arrived on the spot. He stated that the crew would be summoned to deliver up the ship and surrender unconditionally of be sunk. ' "Va.t* Seven Provinces has sent a wireless to its own captain aboard the Eridanus: "Please inform the higher authorities that we have no Communistic leanings and violence is not intended. We will surrender in conformity with our earlier message." It is signed, "The European and native crew." ' ' It is revealed that a police officer warned the commander of the Seven Provinces that the natives would take the ship when the officers were ashore. The commander did not heed the warning, which he considered nonsense* ' - The police officer watched the cruiser leave the harbour and could do nothing.:; .
