NUMEROUS ACTIVITIES
Reports were received at the Wellington Centre Red Cross Society meeting on Tuesday from the Red Cross nurses showing attendances at the various classes. These.were as follows: —Homo nursing, 559; first aid, 1155; hygieno and sanitation, 16;- total, 1730. It was stated that a number of urgent requests for sick-room equipment had been attended to. The- secretary of the Ladies' Auxiliary, Mrs. Ellen, submitted a report on the distribution of boots, clothing, and layettes from the depot which indicated that tho pressure in this feature of the society's work still continues. Mrs. Israel, the secretary of the Braille Club, presented a report which showed that members of the club were busy transcribing books into braille and corresponding with blind people in various parts of the Dominion. Mis. C. H. Chapman, who is in charge of the special sub-committee -for the civilian blind, stated that each case on the register had received a 5s postal note as a Christmas gift. Acknowledgment was expressed to the following people who had generously placed their cars at the society's disposal for the picnic outing for the blind to-day:—Mesdames "W. Downos, G. Shirtcliffe, and J. Matthewson, Lady Buckletbn, Miss J. Myers, Messrs.' X Alderson, J. Abel, F. Roberts, and I. Van Staveren, and Dr. Beaumont. The secretary of the Upper Hutt branch reported that the branch had co-operated with the Citizens' Relief Committee in dispawing Christmas cheer. The present||||a of awards to successful students, in_he Upper Hutt in home nursing and first aid would take place at an "early date. The secretary oi. .he Junior Red Cross presented her report for the month. This outlined a very fine record of work on the part of all junior circles in providing Christmas cheer. Particular reference was made to the work of the juniors in Dunedin in providing clothing, etc., for children entering the hoalth camp at Waikouaiti. To strengthen the society's resources, steps aro in progress for' holding a garden fete on Saturday, 4th March. The Minister of Lands, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, has consented to place the grounds of the' Ministerial residence in Tinakori road at the society's disposal for the occasion. A cheque to the value of £17 was received with thanks from tho Wellington R.S.A., being part.proceeds of Rose Day collections. Fifty-four new members were formally elected. .
