GISBORNE FRUIT CROPS.
Gisborne iruit growers report that as a result of particularly favourable concUtions the Poverty Bay apple crop is likely to exceed estimates by a considerable margin. In the early part of tho season the very light setting on niany of the trees ia the district suggested that the crops would be abnormally light, perhaps the smallest for years, but rain camo just when needed, and the fruit which set flourished, so that a much greater proportion graded ap to standard, but, says the "Poverty Bay Herald/ the exports for tho whole of New Zealand are expected to bo less than last year, which was an abnormal ona for apples. Practically every district in the Dominion reports that the prospects are for smaller exports. Gisborne is also enjoying a great tomato season, thanks to timely rain, but growers aro receiving small returns, about a penny a pound, the supply exceeding the demand.
