WELCOME EXTENDED
A largely-attended meeting of Greeks was held in the Pan-Hellenic Association rooms, Vivian street, last night to extend a welcome to the Bey. Archbishop1 Timotheos. Mr. Dennis Boularis, president of the Pan-Hellenic Association, presided and amongst those • present were Mr. Prank Dyer, Consul for Greece, patron of the. association, and Mrs. Dyer, and Mr. G. T. Dawson, Assistant Consul fdr Greece. ■ ■ , .... Mr. Boularis welcomed the Archbishop on behalf of the Greeks of New Zealand, and speeches were also delivered by Messrs. Janice, George and Garland. Archbishop Timotheos, in a long and eloquent" reply, .thanked all present for the warm welcome extended to him on this, his first visit to New. Zealand. He said he was very delighted with what he had; seen of Wellington up to the present and hoped to see more of the country before he returned to Australia. He also impressed upon the Greeks present that they were lucky to be living under the British flag in such'a glorious country as New Zealand. In the course of his remarks he paid a tribute to the long service (nearly 30 years) of their Consul in New. Zealand, Mr. Frank Dyer, and said that he had heard of the good work done by Mr. Dyer for the Greeks^ long before he came to this country. • ' • ' ■ In the course of his reply, Mr. Dyer took the opportunity of introducing Mr. Dawson, lately appointed Assistant Consul for Greece for .New Zealand, to the audience. < Mr. Dyer mentioned that through the kindness of His Lordship Bishop Sprott, and Canon James, St. Paul's Pro-Cathe-dral had been placed at tl\e disposal of Archibishop Timotheos to hold a service next Sunday morning, commencing at a quarter to 9. • ' • ■
