COCKROACH RACES
Cockroach racing has been imported from the Riviera to . Montparnasse. Fans, and impecunious artists who cannot sell pictures try to win the price of their dinner by "backing their fancy." The "course""is about 12ft long, and is made of glass, partitioned into 10 lanes. The cockroaches are placed at the starting-gate. When "the gate is lifted a-brilliant light comes on, and as cockroaches dislike light they make a rush -to the- inviting ■ darkness at the end of.the-lane. ' ' :
