/AWARDS AT SMITHFIELD

LONDON, 7th February. The New Zealand lamb 3 from the North Island district competition were displayed at Smithfield and attracted much attention and favourable comment. Many experts congratulated Sir .Thomas Wilford (High Commissioner) and Mr. E. S. Forsyte' (Meat Board) on the splendid quality of the exhibits. One •well-known authority said that lambs 'furnished an object lesson to the British farmer, who would be better occupied trying to market similar lambs than trying to get Empire meat disfigured by marking. The judges awarded the Challenge Shield for the best district to Waiiarapa. The prizes for the individual pens are:—First, "Wairarapa, No. 6; second, South Hawkes Bay, No. 8; third,' Manawatu, No. 3; fourth, Hawkes Bay, No. 100. Sir Thomas Wilford and Mr. Stanley Bruce inspected.at Smithfield a splendid display of New Zealand and Australian pork organised by Messrs. Simons and Swain, Limited. Both expressed high admiration of the exhibits, which, they consider, do much to stimulate trade. Afterwards they presented prizes for New Zealand pork. The first prize went to Messrs. E. Hellaby, Limited,-and the second to the New Zealand Pig Marketing Board; In the baconers the first prize went to the Model Piggeries; The awards in a special competition for Southland boys and girls were as follows:—Light'porkers, E. Dowling 1, J. Dowling 2. Heavy porkers, A. Collie 1, J. McKereher 2. Baconers, 3?. Blakie
