MOTORISTS' DINNER
DELEGATES TO N.LM.U
A complimentary dinner was given at the Hotel St. George, last evening by the Wellington Automobile Club to the delegates attending the half-yearly meeting of the North Island Motor Union. Mr. W. A. Q'Callaghan, president of the union, was in the chair, and the guest 3 numbered 42. Mr. E. A. Batt, chairman of the Wellington executive, proposed the toast "Parliament," urging the need for cooperation with the Government, in difficult times. In reply, Mr. A. E. Ansell, M.P., congratulated motorists on tho sensible and reasonablo attitude they had always taken in regard to legislation, and said he hoped that the same happy relations would continue in tho future. , "The North and South Island Motor Unions" was proposed by Mr. C. M. Banks, who expressed the hope that the two bodies would come together again. Messrs. W. H: P. Barber and J. H. Owen supported the toast. Mr. O'Callaghan, replying, said that for the last few years the two unions had been working in the greatest harmony. In the past there had been differences over the allocation of road funds, but now the unions were working well together. , Mr. P. W. Johnston replied on behalf of the South Island Motor Union. "The Main Highways Board" -was proposed by Mr. A. A. Grayson, president of the Auckland Automobile Association, and responded to by Mr. M. H. Wynyard, motorists' representative on the board. The evening was enlivened by several clever topical songs written by Mr. O. N. Gillespie and sung by Mr. Owen Pritchard, and Mr. A. McElwain gave a humorous talk.- Mr. J. Duncan was the pianist.
