TARANAKI MEETING
Mm FIELDS TOrMORROW
SOME HORSES IN FORM
Fields of even size and .quality have accepted for ; the opening day of the Tara-naki-.Jockey; Club's Autumn Meeting at New1 Plymouth to-morrow, and an excel-lent-day's sport is anticipated. Most of thehorses engaged raced, at Hawera last i week, but there is quite a fair sprinkling of fresh-blood, and the Hawera form may riot' always prove the 'safest ,to follow. After week-end rain the track is likely -to-be'in first-class order. '• '■■ The' club is again distributing dividends on the win-and-place system.; , : It will be the first club to have used the method twice, and an.interesting sidelight on the xfey's racing .will.be whether it is the system or its novelty that has : appealed to the betting public. The card-and prospects are as follows:— 12.36—WAITARA HURDLES, of 85 sqvs; about - one mile ana a half and 100 yards.
Last week's form horses in the Waitara Hurdles are Kimbo and Invictus, with the former looking to have rather the better credentials. Kipibo's toughest opponent will probably be Riotous, from th& same stable as luvictus. At his last start Riotous comfortablyy'beat Kimbo at.Ashhurst oS level terms, so there cannot be much to choose between them here. . Royal Reign is another fresh one with a. chance, but though a "great jumper, she niay not be quite fast enough; Form suggests.Kimbo. arid Riotous. '-':";■
I.IS—NGAMOTIT JUVENILE HANDICAP of :_./• - VO.bovs; fl7o furlongs.
. "Merry Way's two wins at Hawera have .lifted her to 9.2 in the Ngarnotu Juvenile Handicap,-, and, although, at this weight she-should account for most of her last week's opposition, she may find a couple of fresh, ones in Might and Golden Hair difficult_ to settle. .Might, a winner in Australia in the spring, ■will''have benefited with his two' recent races at Trent-, ham, and Golden Hair is a. speedy two-year-old who is all the time improving Hunting-Lodge may be the best place prospect of the others. A good pair should be Golden Hair and Might. ,2.O^FLYIXG HANDICAP, of '-. 120 soys; six -.-'" . •'.;.-.'"' furlongs.. '.',.'"'. ".V -. If the going' S soft after recent fains Xady Quex's chance may riot Be so good as that of the other threer .Refresher arid Green Linnet are also quite definite, prospects. -There'is likely to be good support for Royal Bengal and Orapai. B.4S—TARANAKI COT HANDICAP, of 225 sots, including cup valued at 25 sots; one ■ mile and a quarter.. .
Acgood field promises to line up for the TaranakL.Cup.iand it should, bej an excellent betting-:-.-. *vent..^ .;.Gibraltar, -whose two seconds Jast. week indicated that he was returning to the form he possessed last- season, is very favourably weighted on 8.1, and he is likely to be hard to beat. His sale on Monday is announced, so that, unless a contingency has been retained, he will not be bracketed with Glowlight and. Easter Time, but ' even without sharing a window with them on the-.machine he may be the favourite. His' most serious opponents look to be Eefresher fif "reserved) and- Eichfield frora:.the_:more.seasoned horses,,and Eminent, Khan," and: Glowlight from lower ~doWn the list; Any of the three lightweights named may well pull off this year's race. ' Brambletorn is racing consistently at present, but the handieapper would seem to have givea him ample attention in setting him at the head of the handicap. A pair who will be ed; are Gibraltar and Eminent. . - . 3.3O—OKATO HACK HANDICAP, of T5 soys; "..!.■■■ ..: : one mile and 110 ya r<?s-,,; '~. :
Judged through Hawera running March Alone would redd a good'prospect for the Okato Hack Handicap, and if he is beaten it will probably be by something fresh. AtJHawera over the same distance he was beaten-only by a head by Glowlight, with JJavistbck a heck away, and now he comes -in,, at 81b better than Glbwlight arid 71b better 'than Davistock, Dayist'oek certaiflly .would look better Mtin. bis box. Clangor and'Joyspear are a couple of new ones wHo may; show up; prominently, and Cereal is a' prospect if: reserved "in- 'spite of His 9.3. - Good efforts are likely from March Alone; and Clangor. ;:_.■ ..-•--■ 4.15^111511 HIGBrWEiGHT HANDICAP, of 85 .■■-,:•"■ soys; 'about seven, furlongs. : st. lb. J Awaken was not produced at Hawera arid her Trentham form was not suggestive, but she is nearly- due to do something, better. T So is ■ Glenvane, who was .regularly left at the post at Trent<ham,_theh showed great bursts of speed. .Orapaj,»jf reservedi would require consideration^ but the sprint looks a better race for .him.'.■.". Last week's winner, Lucky Alice, though up against a more solid-lot, should also go well, and, if there" Is a "surprise, it may be from her stablemate, Arvada, whose last week's form was too bad to be true. Recent efforts -would suggest Glenvane and Lucky Alice.
