HAWERA TRACK ifNOTES

(Special from "Limited.")

HAWERA,, This Day.

Practically all the horses-in active commission at Hawera -will be seen out at New Plymouth. Although mot accepted for to-morrow, Tenacre, Pesehiera, No Doubt, and. Copej; are booked to compete on Saturday. The final work.of the Hawera horses before leaving -was performed, yesterday morning, when the whole of the course proper was available .for fast work. A heavy dew ■ and growth of grass during the recent rains made the going slower than on race days last week. ■' ■. .... Aga Khan, who has • been getting down on his heels, despite; the fact that he has been wearing boots, is otherwise in good condition. With a lightweight in the saddle, he_ was galloped a mile yesterday. Starting off at a solid pace, he did the first half : mile in 52 l-ssec, but he slowed up over the concluding half to register.lmin 48sec for the mile. The gallop was by no means impressive as a TaranaM Cup trial. • The two-year-old.No.Doubt and Green Linnet were associated in- a sprint over half a mile. No Doubt stuck to his ,task well, but Green Linnet was going the better at the finish in 50 3-5 sec. Green Linnet is improving all the time, and is likely to run well in the Plying Handicap under her light impost: . Richfield, Calamine, and-, Marjoram were sent • seven furlongs. The, first furlong was^run_slowly,.but-gping down the back Bichfield and Marjoram clapped on the pace, leaving Calamine several lengths behind. Eichfield finished on the best and reached the post comfortably in Imin 34sec f Marjoram being well in front of Calamine. Awaken and March. Alone set out from the six furlong peg and went at a solid paco throughout. March Alone finished a couple of lengths in front of Awaken in Imin 19sec, a useful gallop. March-Alone 'is an: improving sort, and should-give a good-account of himself at New. Plymouth;- ■'.• Awaken did not impress, and is evidently not near her best yet. . , • "Davistock was apportioned light work only. He disappointed. badly in the final event last Thursday, and. is not solid. '■'..'.. Day Lass, the hurdle mare, has been working on the Hawera tracks, and is looking well. She is. a. genuine, little customer, and likely "to. effect a surprise any time. : W.; Grihdlay.'is to'ride'.her tomorrow. "'.. . ; '.',-' .'■-■-.: : The Taranaki Stakes candidate, Golden Hair, looks in nice order, and went smoothly in a galloj) over five furlongs with Miss Cavendish, the pair finishing together in Imin 3 l-ssec. Miss Cavendish went really well, and if ehe would only run up to track form .would have an xindoubted chance in the Tim-aru-Hack Handicap under 7.8.; The Kuapapa.'. gelding, Boyal Papa, who failed to show up here in his races last week, performed, attractively in a gallop over half a mile in 50Jsec. Tenacre bowled along nicely in Ms three-quarter-pace work over a mile and a half. He is'to-run in the hurdles on Saturday; when. W.- Grindlay is. to- have the mount. , ' . ■ . A- peculiar mishap te'f ell' J. Fryer 'a Tonbridge gelding' Attentive a few; days ago. While being ridden around by an attendant an ember .from" a cigarette lodged on^ his shoulder clothing and burnt through to .the. sijn. A nasty sore is the result, and the gelding is unlikely to start at New Plymouth.
