THE LEVIN.CASE

ACCUSED FOUND GUILTY;

PLEADS MENTAL TROUBLE

PALMEESTON N., This Day. ; William. Charles Norman, aged -36, was charged at the Supreme Court today with causing grievous bodily harm to Colin. George Harrison and on a similar count with respect to Josephine Evelyn McTaggart, the "charges arising out of an incident in the Levin Domain on New Year's Eve, when the two complainants were assaulted while waiting for another person. The accused handed to his Honour a statement saying that he pleaded not guilty, as he suffered at periods from a deranged mind and did not realise what he was doing. He said he was really suffering from temporary insanity as a result of an accident eight years ago. He was completely ignorant of tho offence with which he was charged.

, His Honour commented that the case had taken a curious turn. Tho facts were perfectly clear. If the accused was convicted he would not be sentenced until the fullest inquiries had been made into his mental state.

The aeeus'ed was found guilty and was remanded for sentence.
