NAZI HERO-WORSHIP

VICTIMS OF FACTION

HUGE STATE FUNERAL

BEELIN, sth February. The city to-day indulged in. an orgy of Nazi hero-worship, during the burial of Hans Maikowski and a policeman, who were murdered by Communists on 31st January. They were given a State funeral, hitherto only accorded ta President Ebert and Dr. Stresemann since the inception of the Eepublic. The ex-Crown Prince, in the uniform ,of the Death's Head Hussars, attended, and greeted his brother the Prince August Wilhelmi with a Fascist salute and placed wreaths on the coffins.

_ Thousands of uniformed Nazis participated in the procession to the cemetery, where Maikowski was buried in a grave adjoining that of the famous war air ace, Baron yon Eichthofen.

Aeroplanes with black streamers flew over the cemetery, and the Protestant Cathedral, which. Herr Hitler, though a Born an Catholic, attended, was draped with flags. The coffins lay in state before the altar guarded by blue-clad police and brown-shirted storm troopers. ' . :

Despite a downpour of rain, hundreds of thousands of Nazi^, "Steel Helmets;" and the police, acompanied by bands, followed the hearse to the cemetery.

At the funeral of Zauritz, a victim of the same shooting, Communists described him as murdered by Nazis. His relatives did not desire_ a State funeral, especially in association with the Nazis, whom they dislike.
