Discussions, begun by Mr. Sydney Myerj have been proceeding between representatives of these orchestras for several weeks Their decision was reported at a meeting of the Melbourne University Council. The council approved v the principle. The combined orchestra vnllbe known as'the: Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. This orchestra, it was explained in a statement issued through the Registrar of the University (Mr. J. p. Bainbridgej after the meeting, will not only continue the celebrity concerts under the conductorship •of Professor Bernard Heinze, but orchestral concerts at popular prices will be given frequently, and open-air concerts will he Riven under the conduetorship of Mr Fritz Hart. By these concerts it is sincerely hoped that all music-loving citizens will be deeply and keenly interested in the development of one highly efficient orchestra.'—l am, etc., . ■ H. R. FISHER. -
