WIN-AND-PLACE "TOTE"
ADOPTION FOR I TROTTING^
At the present time noprovision is made in.the Rules of ■ Trotting for the Avin-and-place system of betting which'has .proved so., successful at racing clubs' meetings; but it is probable that the executive of .the New Zealand Trotting Conference 'will bring about the necessary alterations to the: rules to allow of the introduction of. the win-and-place system. ~. , ... ■..'- At the Trotting Conference two years ago, i Mr. H. W.. Kitchingham advocated! this system of betting-. The two-dividend rule was later replaced by one which gave'i clubs the option of paying two dividends of 75per.centl;on the first horse, and 25 per cent.- on the second horse, or three dividends of equal proportions "■ on the first, second, and third horses, or percentages of 50, 30;. and .20 per cent. No; other club. except the Oamaru' Trotting Club tried the three-dividend method." At the last meeting of delegates, to conference,: the percentages were1 changed- to.^o, :20,; and _10. This has; not proved' popular,: and it now remains for. the.authorities toi legislate' for 'thei win-and-place system. :
