SENIOR. CHAMPIONSHIP
The Basin Reserve will not be available lor cricket next Saturday afternoon,- and at last night's meeting of the Wellington Lricket Association's- Management Committee it was* decided that the two senior matches commenced at the Basin last Saturday week—Kilbirnie v. Petone and Wellington v. Institute—be.concluded at Kelburn Park next Saturday. It was reported that the Petone. Oval was not available tor cricket next. Saturday, and that the Basin Reserve would again be required for purposes other than cricket on the 25th February. ■
Matters in connection with'the second round of the Senior championship competition were left in the hands of the Senior Championship Committee. ' The. position of the club, championship, as at the end of matches played on the 21st January, showed that University was m the lead from Wellington College Old Boys and Hutf;. Iti his report on'the Wellington team's visit to Auckland for the Plunket Shield match played there. recently, Mr. R. F. Steel, manager of .the team, made special reierence to performances in the match. So far as the'bowling was concerned, Newman and. Freeman both achieved good measure of success, but- Parsloeand Blundell were handicapped by the fact that the wicket did Dot suit them. Several players did well --with.' the bat,: James playing a nne lighting innings: and Tindill providing J,™ c treat in his first appearance in a Shield match. ' Tiridill, too, showed up I conspicuously in the'field. Tribute was also paid by the manager to the manner m which James handled the side. Special reference was also made to the hospitable manner in which the team was treated during its stay in Auckland. Consideration was given to the question ?£ a v¥ c? u"^ benefit.match, and it was tnougnt that the championship final would give as good a return as,any other match which might be arranged. Mr.' Broad mentioned that the trustees had suggested that the be closed at the end of the month, and on that account it was decided to ask clubs to give what assistance they could before the; fund closed. The Hutt Club notified that itfwas making a separate presentation to McGirr.
