Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lowry, Taihape, arrived in Wellington yesterday, and left by the Monowai last,evening for Milford Sound. Mrs. H. F. OTJeary and Miss H. O'Leary Fay left "Wellington this morning for. New Plymouth. Mrs. Edgar Stead, "Hani," Riecarton, Christchurch, has returned South after,a brief visit to Wellington. Mrs, Dundas Allen, Bellovue Hill, Sydney, arrived in Wellington yester-day-to visit her mother, Lady Hosking,' Wadestown. Mr. and Mrs., Erie Nelson (Hawkes Bay) and Mrs. Nelson's mother, Mrs. Faulkner (Sydney),' left Wellington last evening by the Monowai for Milford Sound. Mrs. JVC, Clarkson, Christehurch, has returned homo after a visit to Wellington. '■'.■; Miss Mary Menzies, who has been spending a holiday at The Chateau and Marton, returned to Christchurch last evening. '' Mrs. C. S. Gibbs, Christchurch, is spending a holiday in Wellington. Misses E. and H.; Harding will leave Wellington at daybreak to-morrow by the Tamaroa for England. Mr. ana Mrs. Bruce Christie, Grove road, left for the South last night, en route to Dunedin. > ;■'•. Moore (Sydney), Mrs. F. M. Dennehy (Greyniouth), Mrs. A. Capel and Mrs. B. Simpson. (Brisbane), are staying at the Hotei;St. George.. Mrs. E. J. Ogden. (T7.5.A.), Miss Bi Orringo (Napier), and-Mrs. Ivan Stuart (London) are staying at the Midland Hotel. . ' Miss K.- ,White,' Christchurch, is at present visiting Wellington, and is staying at the Empire Hotel. Miss Sadlier, daughter of the Bishop of Nelson, who ia' acting' as relieving nurse for .three years, was at Yezd, where the' hospital-had to bo Underground in; summer Yon account of the fierce heat, says the""Church News"; they have to close down, completely for two months. This city waß designed by Alexander tho Great as a prison for his enemies, and it is surrounded by forty odd miles of waterless and roadless' desert. The hospital cannot afford the high towers which wealthy residents build to escape .the ground heat

' ■ Tho visit to Auckland of Dame Sybil Thorndike coincided with tho twentyfirst birthday of her son, Mr. Christopher Cassori,- who is a member of his mother's company. To celebrate this event, a special train was engaged to take' tho whole of the company at an early hour on Sunday morning to Rotorua, where sightseeing arrangements gave them a hurried glimpse of its thermal wonders (states an exchange). The party returned to Auckland, early next morning.
