FALL IN SHARE PRICES.
The recession in the .Market-prices of ordinary shares is reflected in a fall of 42 points in the official index number for December, covering ordinary share prices of. 49 companies, reports the . Government Statistician. The December index (683) represents a fall of 317T per. -cent.,- ~^s compared with the base year (1926). After a. steady recovery between the - months of April and September share prices fell away in later months of the year; the December index, however, being still slightly above the record low level recorded in April. ~ , ......
The annual average index numbera of share prices for each group, and all groups continued during the past five years, are shown in the following table. These indexes represent the average of market prices on the last trading day in each month.
