HORSES FOR BLENHEIM
Trentham horses with: engagements at the Marlborough Meeting this 'weekwere worked this- morning, but as the course was enveloped in very heavy fog it was" impossible, to time the gallops, which, with conditions as they were, were done at good to strong three-quarter' pace only. I'he weather' was line after '.much' recent rain, and the. trial-grass track Tvas used. Only two of the ' horses . entered for Blenheim are not making the trip.- They are Maypay and Lovecourt. The former was lame -after- working on Saturday, and she_ has been physicked. The latter is waiting for meetings nearer at hand. Solitaire, 11, _ who _will be taken across by .her trainer, C. Pritehard, was sent an easy half-mile. This trainer's'other charge; Autopay, went South, to Wingatui- last evening in charge of C. Willis. Pritehard states that it is now quite probable that Autopay will be /started in the Dunedin Cup. No rider has yet been engaged, D. O'Connor not being available, as he will be required for Silver Scorn.
Palace and Lyrical ran a mile together at three-quarter pace. Both are now to go to. Blenheim. P. Mcßrearty will ride the former and W. E. Shand" probably the latter. Shand will also be on Jadarino in her engagements at the meeting. .; .
Money Mint found Lord John of little use to him over half a mile. H. D. Robinson is likely to ride him at Blenheim. Late Jest, who will be ridden by S. Anderson, went six furlongs at a strong three-quarter pace. ■
Shootist went sis furlongs alone, and Purse was a lot too speedy for Invite over half a mile. Owing to the fog none of these gallops could be timed. Later on, with the fog lifting, Golden Horn (J. Gunn), starting from the winning post, and being picked up by Quietly (Shand) at the sis furlongs and by Secrecy (R. Morris) at the half-mile, ran the last mile in lmin 49sec, and the last half-mile in 53 3-ssec. Secrecy: finished just in front of him. This Cape Horn three-year-old, i who is still a maiden- but has shown eiay- ! ing promise, is to be given a chance in the |St. Leger next month. . .' i Play Area (A. Leach) and the three-year-old Acre^—Wench gelding in S. Ayres's ■stable (Morris), started off by Chile, ran [half a mile smartly in 51% sec, the Wench i gelding coming up at the finish to win the gallop by half a length. Play Area is the name that has. been bestowed on Bayacre's three-year-old sister in A. Goodman's stable.
J. McLaughlin has purchased the two-year-old Epigram from his patron, Mr. J. A. Taylor. Normandy is back in -work, looking well. Palm also returned to work last week, but at present, owing, to a slight mishap, is not coming down to the tracks. Cape of Good Hope, has been sent out for a spell. The northern horsemen, H. N. Wiggins and K. McTavish, were passengers South for Dunedin last night. Wiggins is-to ride Princess Argosy, Wealth, Fair Weather, Niggerhead, and Silver Light. McTavish wili be on Red Heckle in the Cup. . S. J. Reid left this morning with his three for Taranaki—Eminent, - Clangor, and Might. ■ - . . ;. . '. -
