F. E. FOSTER'S OPINION
RUINATION OF CRICKET
(Received 19th January, 10 a.m.)
LONDON, 18th January. The former Test cricketer, F. R. Foster, interviewed on the leg theory, said that there -was such a thing as cricket sportsmanship. The English team was not showing the true spirit, and unless this policy was discontinued it -would ruin the game, because of its intimidating tie batsmen. "Each member of the team," said Foster, "is an ambassador from England. Winning the Ashes is secondary to the good feeling created. Australia's second Test victory was a triumph of right over might."
Lord Tennyson, former Test captain, interviewed, said: "I would like to see the leg theory, completely dropped. I suggest that if be continued in the present series and then discussed at a round-table conference." • The "Daily Mail" says that the Australian Cricket Board's protest has not yet arrived.
A Marylebone Cricket Club official says that the committee has not' discussed shock tactics. If tho Board of Control asks for an opinion some days must elapse before a meeting can be held. Nothing can be done to affect the Adelaide match. '
